Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how StarsEdge ("StarsEdge", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses and protects information in connection with Clarity, our macOS desktop application for analysing poker hand histories, and our website at getclarity.poker (the "Site"). Clarity is built to be private by design: your poker data lives on your own Mac, not on our servers.
If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@starsedge.app.
1. Who we are
StarsEdge is the provider of Clarity and the data controller responsible for personal data described in this policy. StarsEdge is based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), our contact point for privacy matters is support@starsedge.app.
2. Our privacy-first approach in plain terms
- Your hand histories, session data and analysis results are stored locally on your device in a database on your Mac. We do not upload, copy or store your raw hand history data on our servers.
- We only receive personal data from you in limited situations: when you buy a licence, when you contact us, when you use the Site, and — if you choose to use our optional AI features — when specific hands you select are sent for analysis (see Section 5).
- We never sell your personal data, and we do not use your poker data for advertising.
3. Information we collect
Information stored only on your device (we do not receive it):
- Poker hand histories you import into Clarity, including cards, actions, stakes, and the screen names of players at the tables you have played.
- Session records, statistics (such as VPIP, PFR and c-bet percentages), notes and any analysis results generated locally.
This information stays in Clarity's local database on your Mac unless you actively choose to use an AI feature that transmits selected hands (Section 5), or you export or share it yourself.
Information we collect when you buy or use Clarity:
- Purchase and licence information: your name, email address and a record of your purchase and licence key. Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of your purchase and your billing email, but we do not receive or store your full card details.
- Support communications: if you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.
Information collected via the Site:
- Basic technical and usage information such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and referring source, collected by our hosting provider (Vercel) as part of normal server operations. We do not use third-party analytics on the Site.
Diagnostics:
Clarity does not send usage analytics or telemetry from the desktop app.
4. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- deliver and license the Clarity software to you and validate your licence key;
- provide the AI analysis features you request (Section 5);
- process payments, provide receipts and manage refunds;
- respond to your support requests;
- operate, secure and improve the Site and our products; and
- comply with our legal obligations.
Legal bases (UK GDPR). We rely on: performance of a contract (to provide the software, licence and features you buy); legitimate interests (to secure and improve our products, and to run the Site), balanced against your rights; consent (for sending selected hands to our AI features); and legal obligation (for tax and accounting records).
5. AI analysis features (optional, paid)
Clarity includes optional AI study features that analyse your play in more depth. These features are not part of the local tracker and work differently from the rest of the app:
- They are opt-in and only run when you request an analysis. No hand data is sent anywhere for AI processing unless you actively start a study.
- What is sent: when you run a study, Clarity selects a small number of significant hands (typically around 12–15 per study) and transmits the relevant hand details — such as cards, actions, stakes and the screen names present in those hands — for analysis. The rest of your database is not transmitted.
- How it is sent: selected hand data is sent from Clarity to our secure API layer hosted on Cloudflare (which routes and processes the request as our infrastructure provider) and then to Anthropic, whose Claude AI models generate the analysis. Anthropic processes this data as our sub-processor under its commercial API terms and does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.
- Results are returned to Clarity and stored locally on your device.
- These features are a separate paid service. AI analysis is not included in the one-time lifetime licence for the tracker and is billed separately (for example, as a subscription or usage-based plan). Using AI features involves additional charges, disclosed to you before you subscribe or purchase credits. See the Terms & Conditions for details.
If you never use the AI features, no hand data leaves your device through them.
6. Sharing and sub-processors
We share personal data only with service providers who help us run Clarity and the Site, and only as needed. These currently include:
- Stripe — payment processing and licensing.
- Cloudflare — API infrastructure for the AI features.
- Anthropic — AI model processing for the AI features.
- Vercel — hosting for our Site.
Each processes data on our behalf under contractual data-protection obligations. We do not sell your personal data or share it for third-party advertising. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, users or the security of our services.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers (including Anthropic and Cloudflare) may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or an adequacy decision, to protect it.
8. Data retention
- Hand history and analysis data stored locally remains on your device until you delete it; you control it entirely.
- Purchase, licence and tax records are kept for as long as needed to support your licence and to meet our legal and accounting obligations (typically up to 6 years).
- Support emails are kept for as long as needed to handle your query and for a reasonable period afterwards.
- Hand data submitted to the AI features is processed to generate your analysis and is subject to our providers' retention policies; we do not retain a separate server-side copy of your submitted hands beyond what is needed to return your result.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. Because your hand history data is stored locally, you can access and delete most of it directly within Clarity or by removing the app's data folder.
To exercise any right relating to data we hold (such as purchase records), email support@starsedge.app. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we'd appreciate the chance to help first.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit for the AI features and access controls on our systems. Your local database is protected by your own device's security. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children
Clarity is intended for adults who are legally permitted to play online poker in their jurisdiction. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and change the "Last updated" date. Significant changes affecting how we use your personal data will be communicated where appropriate.
